Olive Crest Promotes Child Abuse Prevention Through Blue Lights in Las Vegas
In honor of National Child Abuse Prevention Month, Olive Crest is transforming Las Vegas into a beacon of awareness by “Lighting Las Vegas Blue.” Throughout April, prominent landmarks will glow in blue—a color symbolizing the significance of child abuse prevention efforts.
This initiative is made possible through partnerships with Clark County and Caesars Entertainment, with notable landmarks including the iconic “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign, Paris Las Vegas, and the High Roller Observation Wheel being illuminated in blue. Additionally, Caesars Entertainment was a key sponsor of Olive Crest’s Power of One Luncheon, which marked the beginning of Child Abuse Prevention Month in the region.
Mission and Impact of Olive Crest
Established in Southern Nevada in 1997, Olive Crest is a dedicated nonprofit organization focusing on the prevention of child abuse through initiatives aimed at strengthening families and providing necessary support. “Our mission is not just to respond to abuse, but to prevent it,” stated Jimmy Monaghan, Executive Director of Olive Crest in Nevada. “By lighting up the city in blue, we’re asking our community to stand with us—to be compassionate, to be part of the solution, and to be a light.”
Each year, Olive Crest supports over 6,400 individuals, specifically targeting low-income families who are at an increased risk of child abuse and neglect. Their comprehensive programs provide vital services including family strengthening, fostering safe homes, and assisting young adults who have transitioned out of the foster care system.
Community Participation and Awareness
Residents and visitors of Las Vegas are encouraged to wear blue throughout the month and participate in spreading awareness. For more information on how to get involved and assist in these crucial efforts, individuals can visit www.olivecrest.org/nv.
As Olive Crest emphasizes the importance of community involvement, they invite all to join in illuminating the conversation around child abuse prevention and commit to building a strong family structure for every child.
