Communities In Schools of Nevada Appoints New Board Members
In a significant move to strengthen its leadership, Communities In Schools (CIS) of Nevada has appointed three new members to its Board of Directors. This organization is notable for its commitment to educational support across 118 schools in the state, directly benefiting over 100,000 students and their communities.

About the New Members
Nelson Araujo is the Vice President of Community Affairs and Partnerships at R&R Partners. He plays a pivotal role in facilitating major community projects, including the introduction of a new large-scale studio in Las Vegas and supporting efforts to attract a professional sports team to the region. Previously a state legislator, Araujo has a proven track record in building coalitions and policies that benefit diverse communities.
Casey Flair has extensive nonprofit experience and currently serves as the Director of Corporate Social Responsibility & Corporate Affairs at Aristocrat Gaming. With a solid background in various leadership roles at organizations such as The Just One Project and Hakkasan Group, Flair is committed to community engagement. He is an alumnus of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where he excelled in football.
Leslie Goicoechea brings her deep commitment to community development as the Community Engagement and Development Manager for Nevada Gold Mines. A familiar face at CIS, she has previously served as Executive Director for the Northeastern Nevada affiliate. Goicoechea holds an Associate’s degree in General Business and has spent over eight years in different roles within the organization.
The Mission of Communities In Schools of Nevada
Communities In Schools of Nevada places trained site coordinators in high-needs, Title I schools, providing essential support to students facing various challenges. The organization employs a model known as integrated student support or “wraparound services,” which addresses barriers to academic achievement. Services offered include:
- Health care and counseling
- Food and clothing assistance
- School supplies and housing support
In the 2023-2024 academic year, the graduation rate for high school seniors under CIS management reached an impressive 97%. This statistic reflects the organization’s effective approach to fostering educational success through community partnerships.
