Teachers Health Trust Launches Innovative Health Investment Program
Introduction
Las Vegas’ Teachers Health Trust (THT), a nonprofit health insurance plan serving educators in Clark County for over four decades, introduced its transformative Health Investment Program last fall. This initiative aims to enhance healthcare accessibility and affordability for its members.
Innovative Healthcare Model
“Our Health Investment Program is an innovative model for health care,” stated Tom Zumtobel, CEO of THT. “We created it to reduce the financial burden of health care for our members and to offer them with more timely access to care with trusted doctors and health care providers. By incentivizing and contracting directly with a select group of health care providers, we can achieve both goals, ultimately improving our members’ health, medically, behaviorally, and financially.”
Key Features of the Program
- Direct Provider Network: THT has established a network of local providers across the Las Vegas Valley who prioritize appointment access for members, effectively reducing waiting times.
- Cost Efficiency: Most services from participating providers are offered at no cost, with certain specialty services available for a reduced copay. The program has already saved members approximately $235,000.
- Expanded Services: Initially focusing on family practice, internal medicine, and pediatrics, the program has expanded to include obstetrics/gynecology, behavioral health, and newly added oncology and hematology services through The Oncology Institute of Hope & Innovation.
- Adolescent Neuropsychological Evaluations: Members needing neuropsychological evaluations can access these services through Las Vegas Valley Mental Health for a flat $100 copay, ensuring prompt appointments.
- Urgent Care Services: Additional in-home and mobile urgent care options are now available at no cost to THT members through partnerships with Doctoroo, Incredicare Pediatrics, and DispatchHealth.
Commitment to Growth and Education
Zumtobel emphasized THT’s dedication to expanding the Health Investment Program and educating members about its benefits. “The Health Investment Program is an innovative program not only for THT, but for Las Vegas, and truthfully, for the health insurance industry in general,” he noted. “With it, we are dedicated to forging new provider partnerships to serve Clark County educators and their families.”
